NOTE: This page is mostly obsolete. We are planning to implement a better way of visualizing the available data, both on the Harvard server as well as on the Dalhousie server. (Bob Yantosca, 16 Jan 2014)

The following years of GEOS assimilated meteorological observations have been downloaded and processed from NASA's Global Modeling and Assimilation Office (GMAO), and are now being used for GEOS-Chem model simulations.

NOTES:

  1. The data listed in the table below represents the Harvard archive. GEOS-Chem user groups who require additional data periods (e.g. for nested grid simulations) should prepare to download and process the met data on their own and then make that data available to the GEOS-Chem community. Please see our "Available met fields for nested grid simulations" wiki page for more information.

  2. Dalhousie University maintains a parallel archive of met field data. It is not as comprehensive as the Harvard archive, but it contains data for several nested grids that are not archived at Harvard.

  3. For the availability of meteorological fields for the GCAP project, please ask Loretta Mickley (mickleyfas.harvard.edu).

  4. GEOS-5 data is the operational data set and not the MERRA data. The GMAO data versions are as follows:

    • GEOS-5.1.0 (2003/12/01 - 2008/08/31)
    • GEOS-5.2.0 (2008/09/01 - onward)

  5. GEOS-Chem v9-01-01 is the first version of GEOS-Chem that is compatible with the GMAO MERRA data set.

  6. GEOS-3 data is now considered obsolete. We recommend that you drive GEOS-Chem with the GEOS-4, GEOS-5, or MERRA meteorological data products.
